Chelsea is the Executive Producer and Art Director of SportTokz.
Master of Digital Media, Candidate, FCAD, Ryerson University. Graduate from our faculty’s Professional Communications program and our SportTokz expert on Sport Social Media. Chelsea held a Marketing/Media Coordinator at GXSLab where she oversees the Digital Management of SportTokz.
Ruqayah is a second year Sport Media student at Ryerson with a minor in Marketing. Her love for sports led her to join this incredible program. As a visible minority, she hopes to encourage others to think outside the box. With a passion for the digital side of things, she has helped many small businesses/local sports teams with their graphic design needs as a way to enhance her skills in digital content. She also has conceptual knowledge and hands-on experience in live event production, journalism, digital media and content creation. Her work in SportTokz consists of making weekly speaker and podcast graphics for social media and executes any graphical needs set out by the Executive Producer.
Ryan Chiu is a third year New Media student at Ryerson University with a love for all things media-related, ranging from sports and tv, to film, music and video games. Ryan’s background in music and live performance has helped develop skills of collaboration, communication, team coordination and working under pressure, and drives his passion for working in teams and creating content. His work at SportTokz can be heard in every episode through music cues, mixing and tiny fixes here and there.
Julia Mitchell is a second year Sport Media student at Ryerson University. Sports have been a passion of hers throughout her entire life, leading her to pursue Sport Media. Her experience in sports has taught her essential life skills such as hard work, teamwork, communication, and leadership. She is an advocate for women in sports and aspires to direct and produce sports content that goes beyond the game. Her current role at SportTokz as the Social Media Associate allows her to creatively produce, promote and develop content across social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to reach audiences and create awareness of SportTokz episodes and content.
Robert is a first-year Sport Media student at Ryerson University. With a passion for sports at a young age and later video production, Sport Media became the place for him. Robert has experience in videography and post-production, along with producing and directing live broadcasts of sports events at his high school and working video playback for Ryerson Rams Live broadcasts. His role at Sport Tokz sees him edit the clips that are seen on Sport Tokz’ social media pages such as YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.
Giada Alexia Nigro is a first year Sport Media student at Ryerson university also taking a minor in Acting. Giada’s drive and dedication for sports further enhanced her understanding of emotion, teamwork and leadership, which ultimately introduced her to the world of cinematic arts, where she was able to convey passion and emotion through a myriad of mediums. This passion for the arts and her zeal to convey emotive stories has culminated in her focus on cinematic images combined with portrayal of sport to display a visceral connection to the world around her. Whether it be through the delivery of photographic expression or focus on the human thespian; Giada’s media art hones in on the portrayal of graphic prose. Her work on Sportokz can be seen through the selection of various segments that showcase the important issues in sport outlined in each episode. Moving forward Giada wishes to be an advocate for issues in sport and convey the emotional triumphs of the sport community through her graphic designs and storytelling abilities.
Jared is a first-year Sport Media student at Ryerson University. Ever since he was introduced to sports almost a decade ago, his love and passion has grown tremendously and has transcended into the much wider world of media. Having acquired various skills and values from his experiences playing sports, he enjoys working in a team environment, communicating with others, putting in hard work, staying organized, and being ready for any challenge coming his way. He currently works on post-production for SportTokz, reviewing footage and commentary to shot list clips and highlight quotes to be used for social media.
Richard is a 4th-year sport media student at Ryerson University. It was a love of how people used sports to connect with one another that truly drew Richard into sports and by extension media. Richard’s professional skills have grown at Ryerson, beginning as an on-air personality, before transitioning to technical production and finally ending up in his current work positions as a video editor and written contributor within multiple organizations. Richard enjoys putting to use the collaborative and leadership skills he has cultivated as Production Crew Leader for Ryerson Rams Athletics across the last three years. As well as demonstrating his growing creative side in all forms of digital media. Richard’s work with Sport Tokz involves editing the Rapid Fire Segments and Social Media clips seen on Sport Tokz social media pages.
Ryan is a second year student in the Sport Media program at Ryerson University. He is passionate about creative writing, learning from others and figuring out how to create unique & engaging content. He is a hardworking, responsible student who thrives in team environments and is always willing to listen, learn and teach others.
Jai is a third year student at the Sports Media program at Ryerson University. A sports buff and amateur athlete Jai loves the connections that sports bring between people and communities across the globe. With a head for game details and sports history Jai enjoys researching the guests that come on the show. While developing the script he looks to find those less than obvious nuances which explain what makes a person who they are. He believes it is not just the highlights in a career that make a great story but the journey of the person.

What is SportTokz? SportTokz with SportProfz is co-hosted by Ryerson University’s RTA School of Media professors, Prof Walz (Laurel Walzak) and Prof Joe (Joe Recupero) with recurring Featured Guests, Dan “Coach” Berlin, Aksel Lielmanis, and Chelsea Vern. The show is produced LIVE via Zoom conferencing call every Monday night at 8pm for 1-hour. We invite a new Spotlight Speaker and Featured Guest each week where the sport pro’s and prof’s tackle a topic list curated to suit the current climate in the sports industry. We record the entire show for our social media platforms to later post highlights of our speaker’s expert insight and advice.
