Announcing Global Sports Pulse: A New Video Podcast Series

GLOBAL SPORTS PULSE

From the creators of SportTokz with SportProfz, GXSE Impact Research is proud to launch a new video podcast series of sport‑focused storytelling:

GLOBAL SPORTS PULSE

Season 1 - Running from February 2026 to June 2026.

Meet the Hosts:

We are delighted to introduce our two hosts, who bring deep expertise, global perspective, and a shared commitment to advancing sport, culture, entertainment and creative industries:

Prof. Dr. Louis‑Étienne Dubois, Associate Professor and leading scholar in creative industries, innovation, and cultural production. His research has been published in a range of academic journals, and his expertise extends beyond academia through consulting work with private and public organizations across advertising, arts and culture, video games, sports and entertainment, and aerospace. His applied and scholarly experience enriches the series’ analytical lens, particularly in areas related to creative enterprise management and global event production.

Prof. Laurel Walzak, Associate Professor, works at the intersection of North American sport and global innovation, shaped by professional and academic experience across the USA, United Kingdom, Europe, Switzerland, Canada, China, and beyond. Her expertise spans fan engagement, media strategy, sport management, and emerging technologies. As founder of an GXSE Impact Research, she leads multi‑sport projects exploring how AI, data, and media are reshaping the global sport landscape. Her international perspective and innovation‑driven approach strengthen Global Sports Pulse with forward‑looking insights into how sport, media, and technology converge worldwide.

Together, they guide a dynamic team of students and collaborators through a season of critical conversations and creative exploration. Prof Walz and Prof Dubois will be interviewing Canadian and international guest speakers, including industry leaders, scholars, and practitioners, who will contribute insights that deepen cross‑cultural dialogue and enrich student learning.

What the Series Explores:

Each episode examines a pressing theme at the intersection of sport, culture, and society, including related to two mega events, the 2026 Winter Olympics and the 2026 Word Cup. Topics may include:

  • National identity in sports media
  • Power, geopolitics, and global sport governance
  • The legacy of women’s and men’s hockey sports
  • Management  and impact of mega‑events
  • Inclusion,  discrimination, and equity in sport
  • Local  and global fan cultures

Student Experiential Learning in Action:

Funding for this series is from the Creative School Cluster Seed Grant. The funding will support students from across The Creative School to gain hands‑on experience in media creation, research, and storytelling, skills directly transferable to careers in sport, entertainment, and creative industries.

Curriculum Integration:

In Fall 2026: The Episodes will be integrated into TMU courses, including RTA 231, CRI 700, and CRI 800. Course integration ensures that insights from the series, particularly around inclusion, discrimination, and critical issues in sport, support curriculum development and enrich classroom learning.

SPORTTOKZ with SPORTPROFZ

An online community to socialize and talk sports!

“As social distancing was taking its toll on everyone, Joe and I were concerned that while sports were on pause, so were sports conversation and creation. We wanted to develop a way to unite our students and the sports community by providing a space for the sports industry and sports academics to collaborate. Thus, SportTokz with SportProfz was born”  Laurel Walzak, Associate Professor.
